More plastic than fish

In early February 2017, 30 plastic bags were found in the stomach of a stranded whale at Sotra. This received great attention, in national and international media. A lot of people were surprised... It almost seemed that many were not aware that this was a problem? Many newspapers and blogs followed up with issues about plastic, the sea and the environment. Enlightening cases, cases with examples of methods to reduce plastic consumption, and cases of who is responsible for dealing with the problem. Many companies "responded" to the social challenge of taking responsibility.

An example here was Finn.no, which launched the campaign "Ønskes kjøpt: Havplast" (“Wish to buy: Sea plastic”). They went out and said they would buy 1,000 bags of plastic waste from the Norwegian coast for 100 NOK. People got bags to fill with plastic from the beaches, and when the bag was full, they were to deliver it to a recycling centre, take a picture where the bag number was visible and create a Finn AD in the Category Havplast (Ocean-plastic). Then Finn.no bought the bag for 100 NOK. Finn.no further challenged Storebrand to contribute.

Examples of comments from private individuals were: "Best project in a long time. Go Finn.no!” and "Hurrah for FINN who started this, and for Storebrand who has now accepted the challenge! I hope many more people join this great cleanup/environment project."

The campaign focuses on a major problem and has an enlightening effect. It shows commitment and motivates others to take responsibility. Customers and potential customers get excited, express their excitement so that many others see - and there is a high probability that the campaign strengthens customer loyalty. Just saying...
